The Society for Marketing Professional Services, DC Chapter (SMPS DC) awards two scholarships to local university students
The SMPS DC Chapter is pleased to announce their 2009 scholarship awardees: Kendra Marshall and Lita Ledesma. Traditionally the chapter awards one $1,000 scholarship per year to a deserving student interested in pursuing a career in marketing professional services. Due to the caliber of this year's applicants the chapter was pleased to award two scholarships to these accomplished students.
Lita Ledesma is studying Graphic Design at the Corcoran School of Art & Design and intends to pursue a career in graphics within the A/E/C industry. Kendra Marshall is a freshman at Howard University majoring in Marketing who is also enrolled in the Army ROTC program. Both awardees expressed a desire to become active within SMPS to gain the skills and knowledge to excel in their careers.
In order to eligible for the scholarship applicants must be enrolled as a full or part-time student at a university program within Virginia, the District of Columbia, or Maryland. In addition, students must be majoring in marketing, business communications, journalism, English or graphic design with the intent to pursue a career in marketing professional services. A minimum GPA of a 3.0 is required and students must be interested in joining the SMPS DC Chapter and attending chapter events.

The scholarship program is the perfect forum to provide assistance and encouragement to students who are interested in the field. Our goal is to make scholarship awardees and all student members feel as though they are an essential part of the chapter."

Scholarship benefits include a one-year SMPS Student Membership and complimentary registration to all DC Chapter events. Involvement in the chapter is an excellent opportunity for students and industry professionals alike to build their network, sharpen skills, and exchange ideas. SMPS DC will begin accepting applications for the 2010 scholarship in early November and scholarship winners will be notified in May 2010. The SMPS DC Chapter is currently identifying opportunities to form student chapters at local universities.
